There was tension as passengers
were being evacuated today at Sweden's Stockholm-Skavsta Airport when traces of
explosive powder were found in a luggage during a routine security check. The departure
hall and baggage section were promptly evacuated as Police bomb squad were
dispatched to the area.
A statement on the
airport's website said its terminal was closed temporarily and passengers would
be updated at 1pm local time. According to the Police, the closure would not
affect arrivals but the departing passengers would wait for clearance from the
bomb squad before the airport is re-opened to resume air traffic.
Skavsta Airport is the fifth largest airport in Sweden handling around 2.5million passengers a year and serves primarily low-cost and cargo carriers.
