MODE OF WORK/SOURCING JOB AS A VA

As a Virtual Assistant, your mode of operation depends on the pattern or choice you deem best to get clients. A decision to open your own business might be more interesting to you than working for another VA who might have already established.
If you choose to start your own business, it might not be so smooth in canvassing for clients and doing it alone, however, determination will pay off as this business requires you to be self motivated. There are many websites where a V.A can bid for projects and choose clients. Such sites include; Elance, Guru, and Rent-A-Coder etc. Most of these sites require only registration and updating your profile to show your eligibility for the jobs you intend to take. Although there are fees to be paid during registration, a person has option of registering without paying anything. Your work will entail awarding you projects (jobs) on those sites depending on your  own skill and unique list of services which you offer, executing the project and having your money wired to you through any pre-arranged electronic means.
As you can see, you might end up not meeting any person in the course of transacting the business. It all will be arranged from the comfort of your office/room. Other methods of sourcing for job locally is by distributing flyers and making sure people you meet are handed your complimentary card. With that, and other local means of publicity (which we will treat on a different topic), will surely attract clients.

MEMORIAL OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR

President Obama at the Memorial

America on this day celebrated the memorial dedication of Martin Luther King Jr at the Washington National Mall.
The occasion was marked by speeches from civil rights leaders such as Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, both of whom were associates of King, and the Rev. Al Sharpton culminated with a song from Aretha Franklin and an address from President Obama.   The MLK statue which was erected by Chinese sculptor Lei Yi Xin was unveiled, marking the first Black man to be honoured at the National Mall.
In his speech, President Obama reiterated the need to honour the speech “I have a dream” which according to him “gave birth to our deepest dreams and our most lasting ideas”.
The occasion also recorded the unexpected appearance of Steve Wonder who sang the Happy Birthday, which chorused everywhere.

British Defence Secretary Liam Fox resigns

British Defence Secretary Liam Fox has resigned after a week of pressure over his working relationship with friend and self-styled adviser Adam Werritty. According to BBC, Mr Fox was being investigated amid claims he broke the ministerial code.
In a letter to David Cameron, Mr Fox said he had "mistakenly allowed" personal and professional responsibilities to be "blurred".
Mr Cameron said he was very sorry to see him go. Transport Secretary Philip Hammond will replace Mr Fox.
Labour said Mr Fox had not upheld the standards expected of ministers and his departure had been "inevitable".
The defence secretary has been under pressure since it emerged that Mr Werritty, a lobbyist, had met him on 18 foreign trips despite having no official role.
Mr Werritty, a former flatmate of Mr Fox and the best man at his wedding, handed out business cards suggesting he was his adviser and was present at meetings Mr Fox had with military figures, diplomats and defence contractors.

IT HAPPENED AGAIN - BOMB BLAST

Another bomb blast in Abuja? This time, I felt the tremor from where I was in Asokoro. I heard a big bang and a tremor. I knew it was an explosion, but never suspected it was for destruction of lives and property. (I said to myself)The frequent constructions around the town could warrant any construction company to use explosives on their site, secondly, there is no government occasion being held around which could be target of bombers. The only occasion I knew happening at that particular moment was the birthday ceremony of  Cardinal Okojie, which is in Lagos (I was watching it on TV).  Within minutes, we could see thick smoke and I knew it was more than a construction company’s blast.
Yet I could not go anywhere because during incidents like this, a second one might happen and you might never know from where. Then came the news flash; Breaking news..  BOMB BLAST AT FORCE HEADQUARTERS CAR PACK. I knew it has happened again.
Am even hearing it might be from a suicide bomber. Nigerians, we are graduating to worse.

One Good news - Gabrielle Giffords recovery

Today, I was very happy when I learnt that the US congresswoman shot in the head in January has been released from hospital to begin outpatient treatment after improvements in her condition.
According to the news, Gabrielle Giffords is to move to the Texas home of her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, from where she will be attending visiting hospital.
I was thinking of sharing this good news and also wondered how callous people could be to their fellow citizens without provocation. This is with emphasis to the part played by Jared Loughner in the shooting of this innocent woman.
Hardly did I know there was a bigger Jared Loughner and a small Osama Bin Laden in the offing within some seconds near me.
