Barely a week after celebrating the victory against Ebola in West Africa and
the official declaration of its end by the World Health Organisation, the deadly
virus has resurfaced in Sierra Leone. According to the Sierra Leonean Health
Ministry, the patient is a woman of 38 years who was a caregiver to an Ebola
victim, Mariatu Jalloh, that died on January 12. The patient developed symptoms
as she was being observed at a quarantine facility.
During interaction with journalists,
the spokesman for Sierra Leonean Health
Ministry Sidi Yahyah Tunis, confirmed the case and assured that the Government
has quarantined and commenced monitoring of other people to checkmate spread of
the virus as the patient undergoes treatment.
The Ebola scourge which started in
Guinea in December 2013 and ravaged more than four African countries over a
two-year period, led to the death of more than 11,000 people before it was
contained.
